The goal of The New York Times community affairs and media relations department is to enhance the communities that The New York Times serves.
Our focus is on multicultural outreach, arts and literature programs, education and literacy. To support that focus we create programs such as:

Established in 2007 by the Times Company working with the Nonprofit Coordinating Committee of New York (NPCC) and the New York Regional Association of Grantmakers (NYRAG), The New York Times Company Nonprofit Excellence Awards recognize management excellence within the nonprofit sector. Nonprofits in New York City, Long Island and Westchester County are eligible to apply. Winners are chosen by a selection committee and awards are presented to four nonprofit organizations in the spring. The awards honor outstanding management practices and encourage innovation and communication among New York’s large and diverse nonprofit community, which serves countless people on a daily basis.. |

The purpose of this award is to recognize one teacher in New York City whose commitment to his or her students is demonstrated by consistently going “above and beyond” the call of duty to help students learn English and develop the skills needed to build successful lives in the United States. |
