Course Description
This Project Management Certification preparation course offered by Towson University provides a foundation in the disciplines and best practices of professional project management.
The course thoroughly prepares students for the Project Management Institute certification exam by covering the material in the PMI® Guide to the PMBOK®, reviewing essential general management topics and providing explanations, examples, references and insight into numerous tangential topics, such as Six-Sigma concepts, Value Engineering and Critical Chain Scheduling. Students will also be introduced to the use of project management software.
Following successful completion of the program, participants receive a continuing education certificate for 56 contact hours (5.6 Continuing or Professional Education Units CEUs or PDUs).
About the Instructors
Norris S. Goff
Norris S. Goff is the developer of TheCourse. He has been a project manager since about 1965, at which time he was employed by Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC). Projects he managed include the New York City Off-Track Betting System and the US Department of Agriculture nationwide integrated system, each costing some $350 million in current dollars. He developed the original Guidelines for Project Management for CSC, circa 1970. In recent years, prior to developing TheCourse in 2001, he was a contract project manager.
Norris has an MBA from Southeastern University and an undergraduate degree in Data Processing Management. He is certified by Project Management Institute as a Project Management Professional (PMP), and had a direct and specific impact on PMI's Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, Third Edition.
Michael S. Schroder
Michael S. Schroder is the Director, Extended Education and OnLine Learning (EEOL) at Towson University. The unit of EEOL is part of the Division of Economic and Community Outreach (DECO). His responsibilities include the daily routine of budgets, administration and personnel, conducting online and distance learning programs across the globe, workshops, short courses, and conferences for companies and government agencies, customized training for companies and government agencies, and curriculum development for customized programs. The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Towson University is part of EEOL and is a mini-university for adults over 50 years of age.
Before coming to Towson University, Mike served for ten years in the Department of Continuing and Professional Education at Virginia Tech University where, he held the positions of program leader, consortia leader and assistant director.
Mike's broad range of experience also includes service with the Virginia Department of Education, where he worked as senior research associate, conducting research and evaluating school vocational education programs; and as corporate manager-trainer for the Ground Round Corporation.
Mike holds a bachelor's degree from Virginia Tech University in hotel, restaurant, and institutional management and a master's degree from Virginia Tech in vocational and technical education, with a concentration in training in development. He is currently ABD (all but dissertation) as he works to complete his dissertation for a PhD in leadership and policy studies with a concentration in training and development.
